Based on 23 years of experience in web application development, I can help you deliver your dream. Using my experience as a software engineer, engineering manager, and head-of-engineering I have a proven track-record of leading teams that deliver complex web-based applications. I focus on delivering projects at high-quality and cost-effectively. My team can lead you through the entire software development process tailored to your specific needs.
Whether you just have an idea or you already have a fully-built out product, my team and I can lead your next development effort and walk you through any part of the process you are unfamiliar with.
We want you to use us because we are good at what we do and you get good value. We have policies in place to achieve this:
Price transparency: I generally work with sub-contractors. I pass on the rate and hours from sub-contractors directly (no rate inflation). You are also always welcome to work directly with any people on the project at any time! Otherwise, I will handle contracts and billing with sub-contractors so you will only get invoices from me.
Outcome alignment: I will work with you to align incentives. For example: project fees could be paid only after milestones are achieved.
My experience is that most agencies and software development shops deliver low internal code quality and design that makes long-term maintainability expensive. I have spent over 20 years studying and learning how to efficiently product high-quality, maintainable software products.
Clear communication: you will be in control of the quality of the project and I will make sure to clearly communicate the possible quality outcomes so you can choose when and how to invest in the long-term success of your project vs short-term outcomes.
Quality guidance: I will monitor and can produce reports on the overall health of the code and project, including estimated effort to reach the quality level a project of similar scale would have and provide guidance on when and how to improve quality (if desired).
I specialize in delivering software projects efficiently.
I have deep experience with all aspects of software development as well as with nearly all types of software. I have written my own Operating System, programming language, database engine, web server, as well as many open source libraries and full-stack web applications and have worked in many domains.
Software application development is a complex and time consuming process that requires skilled people but it can be adjusted to match your needs. I price based on your budget and place in the product life-cycle and scale. This is framed with "levers" you can "pull" to adjust the cost to your needs and budget. It is ok if you are just getting started and don't have a large budget, we can work with you to pull the levers to get you a product that will get you going and as you grow you will have a good base to build off of.
The primary pricing levers:
Rough real-world estimates for a new project (in USD):
< $10k: enough to start going through product development and discovery but unlikely to be a large enough budget to produce a fully custom web-connected application or mobile app. Can be used to develop a better estimate for the full build-out.
$10-$50k: generally the minimum needed to build a quality minimum viable product. The less "custom" and more "common" your problem-space is the further this budget will go.
$50-$250k: a realistic budget to produce a complex, fully custom, web enabled application and/or mobile application.
Maintenance & Brown-field development: pricing will depend on the complexity and existing quality of the code-base. Able to provide maintenance services as well as new development on an existing project. One of our specialties is developing and improving poor-quality existing projects!
